jewellery workshops

one-day workshops & weekend jewellery experiences

As well as our popular Make Your Own Wedding Rings workshops (which we host on any day chosen by you!) we also offer One-Day Jewellery Workshops in sterling silver jewellery and Weekend Jewellery Experiences. Both are suitable for complete beginners and also for those with a little previous experience.

Our One-Day Jewellery Workshops are fun, relaxed and informative, and are based in our beautiful rural jewellery studio. Learn the basics of jewellery making and silversmithing techniques, and come away at the end of the day with made-by-you sterling silver pieces to wear, enjoy or gift!

Our Weekend Jewellery Experiences are a lovely retreat from the stresses and stains of modern life. They're designed to be an extended opportunity to learn the basics of jewellery and silversmithing, and also enjoy some rest and relaxation. The first day is spent in the studio working in sterling silver with the option to add semi-precious beads and gemstones to your designs (although you can also have the option work in gold if you prefer). We finish with a fantastic three-course meal at our characterful and cosy local pub. On the Sunday, we share our favourite local haunts and places with you, or alternatively you may wish to enjoy a second day in the studio to continue your work from Saturday. These weekends are a very special window into our world.

ABOUT OUR ONE-DAY JEWELLERY WORKSHOPS

  • Various dates throughout the year

  • Work in sterling silver to create rings, bangles, pendants or earrings

  • Hosted by Hannah in our custom-built garden studio

  • Very small group classes with just three places on each

  • Refreshments provided but please bring your own packed lunch

  • Suitable for absolute beginners

  • Relaxed, friendly and inclusive atmosphere

  • Beautiful surroundings

A fun and intensive day learning the basic techniques of jewellery and silversmithing. Very much bespoke in flavour, this class is designed to be creatively freeing and has no rigidly prescribed outcome. The class size is limited to just three places; this means that you can have as much hands-on support and guidance as you need, have a wonderful creative experience, and come away with jewellery you are thrilled with.

The workshop is suitable for absolute beginners and also those with a little prior experience. Classes are very much student-led in terms of design and outcome. For example, if you want to spend the day making a simple set of silver stacking rings, you can... or if you'd rather try your hand at an elegant silver bangle or learn how to make a handmade chain, you can... if you're hoping to come away with a pierced-work pendant or a pair of drop earrings, that's fine! It's entirely up to you what you'd like to make. You may wish to bring some designs or sketches for a couple of simple pieces with you to the class as a starting point. If you have any beads or found objects you'd like to work with, please bring them along too.

Material costs are extra. To give an idea of approximate costs for different amounts of sterling silver... material for a delicate silver ring could be around £5, material for a heavy silver ring could be around £15, material for a solid silver bangle could be around £50, material for a pair of cut-out drop earrings might be about £20. We keep a varied supply of sterling silver sheet, wire and ready-made findings in stock, but if there is anything specific you'd like to make please let us know in advance so that we can make sure we have it for you!

Teas and coffees are available all day, but please bring a packed lunch with you. Although the studio is always warm and cosy, we recommend dressing comfortably and practically.

What's Included?

  • All tuition and instruction

  • Use of the studio, tools, safety equipment and facilities

  • Tea, coffee, juice and biscuits throughout the day

What's Not Included?

  • Any materials (sterling silver and silver solder)

Our One-Day Jewellery Workshops are £130 per person. We have a maximum of three places on each day, and the class needs just one attendee to run - so you might even get one-to-one teaching for the same price!

SATURDAY

A wonderful weekend, kicking off with a day in the studio to learn the basic techniques of jewellery and silversmithing. The workshop is suitable for absolute beginners and also those with a little prior experience. We begin at 11am on Saturday morning (to allow time for morning travel and arrival). Similar in structure to our one-day jewellery classes, Saturday is very much bespoke in flavour. There is plenty of time for you to have as much hands-on support and guidance as you need. You will have a wonderful creative experience, learn some new skills, and come away with jewellery you are thrilled with.

Classes are very much student-led in terms of design and outcome. For example, if you want to spend the day making a simple set of silver stacking rings, you can... or if you'd rather try your hand at an elegant silver bangle or learn how to make a handmade chain, you can... if you're hoping to come away with a pierced-work pendant or a pair of drop earrings, that's fine too! You may wish to bring some designs or sketches for a couple of simple pieces with you to the class as a starting point. If you have any beads or found objects you'd like to work with, please bring those along too!

If you wish to work in 9ct or 18ct gold we are happy to arrange this for you, but we will need to order your gold in advance. Working in gold will incur an additional materials charge. Please contact us for details.

Teas and coffees are available all day, and we enjoy a light homemade lunch at around 1pm which includes seasonal home grown and organic produce. We aim to finish at around 6pm, although you may finish earlier if you wish. You may wish to relax in our pretty garden, read a book by our woodburning stove, or stretch your legs.  At around 7pm, we stroll down the lane to enjoy a delicious three-course evening meal at our excellent local pub. All of this is included in the cost for the weekend, please just purchase your own drinks at the pub.

SUNDAY

Hannah will share with you some of her favourite places! This could be anything from a stroll in the forest with Demelza the greyhound, scavenging for rough fluorite and quartz on the nearby fells, a wild swimming excursion, or a trip to a local antique fair to hunt out antique and vintage jewellery! Please let us know if there's anything specific you'd like to see. Travel to and from wherever we go, any admission fees, refreshments and a light lunch are also included (although any purchases you may wish to make are not!)

Alternatively, you are welcome to spend a second day working on your jewellery in the studio, if you prefer.

All activities will finish in good time for you to be able to make your journey home, or catch your train or flight.
